SoundCzech Advisory Council

The SoundCzech Advisory Council is the advisory body for the export-focused SoundCzech office, whose mission is to promote and present contemporary Czech music abroad. The council also comments on the projects that are to receive support and will be connected with support for education and the presentation of contemporary Czech music abroad (tours, the promotion and circulation of Czech music, etc.).

The council’s main function is to provide consultation on

  • the ways of promoting contemporary Czech music internationally,
  • how to shape the platform of the Czech music industry,
  • individual projects supported by SoundCzech,
  • special projects, “playlists”, etc.,
  • selecting artists with the potential to establish themselves internationally,
  • the content and forms of SoundCzech’s on-line presentations.

Petr Dorůžka

Petr Dorůžka is a music journalist and a writer for radio. He has been writing about music since the 1960s. He wrote the biography Šuplík plný Zappy (A Drawer Full of Zappa) and compiled and contributed to the anthology Hudba na pomezí (Music on the Edge). Since the 1990s he has been focusing on world music. He has been hosting his regular radio programme Hudba na pomezí since 1988, and his focus has moved from experimental rock and contemporary music and jazz to world music. In 2003–2005 he was a member of the jury at the Sajanskoje kolco Festival in Siberia, in 2007 he was named one of the 7 Samurai at the Womex Festival, and in 2017 he received the prestigious Womex award for his long-standing professional contribution to music journalism, including radio journalism. Since 1992 he has been a member of the Panel of the World Music Charts Europe, and since 2002 he has been teaching a course on World Music Culture at the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University in Prague.

Dušan Svíba

Dušan Svíba is an agent and the manager of a booking agency called Earth Music, which focuses on Americana, jazz, rock, ska and world music. The agency was founded in 2002 and is active mainly in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. He collaborates with international artists such as the Dubioza Kolektiv, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Orkesta Mendoza, Nive & The Deer Children, NO Blues, Tim Eriksen a českými umělci jako je Nylon Jail, Terne Čhave a Ponk. He is also the founder and the programme director of the Colour Meeting Festival.

Michal Thomes

Michal Thomes is the co-founder and the CEO of the Rock for People Festival and the Nouvelle Prague international music conference and showcase. He is the chair of the FESTAS association, which unites the most important music festivals in the Czech Republic, and he represents Rock for People in the YOUROPE association of European music festivals. He also co-organises a family festival called Kefír.

Přemysl Štěpánek

Přemysl Štěpánek worked in 1999–2002 in the music club Stará Pekárna and from 2002 to the present for the independent music publisher Indies Scope. In 2012 he founded his own company, PR Stage. He is the promoter of the Sziget Festival (Czech Republic and Slovakia) and Balaton Sound (Czech Republic), he has been involved in marketing for the Brno music clubs Sono (2014) and Fléda (2015), and in 2017 he launched the project Czech Fresh.

Stanislav Zima

At the start of 1990, right after the revolution, Stanislav Zima was behind the inception of the very first independent Czech radio station, Radio 1, where he continues to work today. He moderated and wrote for the television music magazines Point and Paskvil, he helped develop the music programmes Radiopaskvil, Triáda, Přestřelka, and El Duo for Czech Radio Vltava, and he is the co-creator of the music-export project Czeching. Since the early 1990s he has written articles and reviews on music for various print magazines (e.g. Rock & Pop, Lidové noviny, Revue Labyrint, and Full Moon). Since 1999 he has had his own independent label, Quazi Delict Records (e.g. Floex, Juanita Juarez, Alvik, Bratři Orffové/The Orffs, Real Transported Man, and, most recently, 1LFF). He works as a DJ using the name Stanzim.

Petra Ludvíková

Since 2006 Petra Ludvíková has been working with Palác Akropolis as a project manager. She also organises cultural events in Prague (e.g. Femme Fatale, On Tour, Music Class) and is the manager of the bands Voila and Never Sol. Since 1998 she has appeared regularly on programmes broadcast on Prague’s Radio 1, where she can currently be heard on Tuesday mornings. In the past she has worked, for example, as a moderator and as an editor of the genre programmes for TV Óčko.

Michal Pařízek


Michal Pařízek is editor-in-chief of the magazine Full Moon, a position he has held since 2014, having worked with the magazine since it was founded in 2010. He is a journalist and a member of the promotional group Scrape Sound, and he has published articles various media, such as Aktuálně.cz, Týden, Čili Chili, Freemusic, Reflex, Nedělní svět, and more.

Marie Čtveráčková

Marie Čtveráčková is a music journalist, a moderator for Radio Wave (Czech Radio), and a lyricist, DJ, producer, curator, and organiser. She collaborates with the Czech music export project Czeching, and on her radio programme ‘The Scene with Mary C’ (Scéna s Mary C) she shares the latest trends emerging in the jazz, blues, soul, rap, and electronic music scenes. She is the founder of the music education platform Kreaton and with the support of the Goethe-Institute she organises the music education event Music Ports. She is interested in creativity and change, not just in the arts, but in every area of life and she is a member of the international collective of women musicians and music professionals female:pressure.

David Urban

David Urban is a Prague promoter who, 25 years ago, founded the D Smack U Promotion agency, which in the course of a quarter century has established itself as one of the most important promotional agencies in the Czech Republic. As well as organising thousands of concerts by international performers at various venues and festivals in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, he represents several domestic and international bands. He has also long worked as a music director for the Prague clubs Roxy and Abaton and in recent years collaborated with Lucerna Music Bar, MeetFactory, Futurum, Storm Klub, Café V lese, and Sedmička. He is involved in the festivals Jelení Příkop, Go Planet Roxy, and Love Planet and arranges bookings for the Rock for People festival, the Grape Festival, and the Rock for Churchill festival.
