The SALON of Czech and Slovak Scenography 2018

The Salon of Czech and Slovak Scenography 2018 presents works by Czech and Slovak scenographers and opens the way for their complex reception and reflection. It is a platform, where professionals and scenography students (as wide as the concept can be – light and sound design, costume design, video art and other fields of scenic design) can meet and present their work.

The central idea of the Salon of Czech and Slovak Scenography 2018 aims at the same goal: it wants to show scenographic production of the past four years and be the meeting point of various designers.

The fourth edition of the project since its restoration in 2013 takes place in May 2018 at the National Theatre Reduta in Brno and has two specific features: as far as the 1918 important anniversary in Czehoslovak history is concerned, the exhibition Salon of Czech Scenography (Kotva shopping mall, November 2017) is enriched with Slovak scenographers (the original number of 27 Czech authors is enriched by 19 Slovak authors in cooperation with the Theatre Institute Bratislava and PRO SCENA association); moreover, the exhibition will move to the Umelka gallery in Bratislava at the end of 2018. The second important ambivalence is a fact that the exhibition will take place parallel to and in cooperation with the international Theatre World Brno, thus it will be open to artists from neighboring countries not only in the discussion.

The scenographic exhibition Salon focuses on professionals and general public, who are interested in what is happening in Czech and Slovak theatre culture, thus it aims at common theatre audiences as well as professionals and practitioners from the field of performing arts. Scenographic production is presented in the form of an exhibition and are naturally divorced from its intention and application: theatre in the widest possible meaning. Salon 2018 also organizes discussion meetings of exhibiting artists and “their theoreticians” as an inseparable part of the exhibition. The accompanying program opens to the public even more as those who are interested may attend the opening on 4th May in Reduta, Brno as well as the international symposium Half-Life 4.1, the showcase of contemporary scenography U-KAŽ & M-LUV or guided tours. All the events are organized by the Czech Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (ČOSDAT) and the Arts and Theatre Institute (ATI) in cooperation with the National Theatre Brno Reduta and Slovak partners: Theatre Institute Bratislava and PRO SCENA association.
