Vilém Sochůrek (1944-1976) is an important personality of Czech theatre photography. Despite the shortness of his life, he left behind an extensive collection of unique photographs. He devoted himself to the theatre from the age of 17, when he photographed at the Rokoko Theatre. From 1965 until his death, he worked at the Theatre Institute, where he created a collection of photographic and scenographic documentation (more than 10,000 items in the period before digitization). In addition to photographing productions, he also documented scenographic artefacts - mainly as part of the Prague Quadrennial international scenographic show. Among his most important photographs are those of the National Theatre, Drama Club, Theatre Na zábradlí, Vinohrady Theatre, E. F. Burian Theatre and many others. In addition to the theatre, Sochůrek was also a successful musician. The publication is supplemented with portraits of personalities from both the theatre and music (Zdeněk Štěpánek, Jiří Suchý, Ivan Vyskočil, Ctibor Turba, Marta Kubišová, Waldemar Matuška, etc.). In 1974 at the IV. International Triennial of Theatre Photography in Nový Sad, Vilém Sochůrek won a gold medal.
