The second issue of Divadelní revue 2021 contains, among other things, studies on the director Karel Dostal, the diary entries of Cardinal Harrach from the 1750s, an essay on the Prague performance of The Allamoda Deception from 1660 and a topical essay on events not only in Polish theatre by Dariusz Kosiński. - Alena Sarkissian, a theatre scholar and classical philologist, writes about the director Karel Dostal, who has so far stood rather on the sidelines of theatre studies. In her study entitled "The Great Dead Return: Phaedra and Iphigenie in the Work of Karel Dostal", she analyses his productions that focus on French and German mythological tragedy from the Classical period from the 1920s to the 1940s. - Miroslav Lukáš from the IDU's Cabinet for the Study of Czech Theatre in his study "Reports on Noble Theatre in Cardinal Harrach's Notes" provides a revealing insight into Prague's theatre life at the turn of the 1750s and 1760s, when the stabilisation of conditions after the Thirty Years' War led to the development of theatre performed in aristocratic palaces. - The production of the play Betrug der Allamoda from 1660, which is the subject of a study by the Viennese authors Andrea Sommer-Mathis and Petr Mata in their study "The Prague production of The Deception of Allamoda (1660) as an example of Italian cultural transfer to Bohemia in the mid-17th century", also falls within the period studied by Lukáš. reflects on the pressing issues related to the covid-19 pandemics and movements dealing with different kinds of social violence and power structures. According to the author, the pandemics and subversive social tendencies bring a serious transformative moment to theatre, challenging and disrupting its long-standing, seemingly a priori status - aesthetic, social, cultural, historical, theoretical - and deeply entrenched, undemocratic and ultimately violent hierarchies. - The issue also features an interview by Michal Čunderle with director and educator Přemysl Rute and reviews by Jan Šotkovský and David Kroca of recently published books in the field.
