Plays / Giraudoux

390 Kč Buy in e-shop

The new volume of the Theatre Plays edition brings eleven plays by one of the most important French playwrights Jean Giraudoux. It presents his unique dramatic work full of moral and amorous paradoxes on the basis of both his famous plays (The Trojan War Will Not Be, Ondine, The Madwoman of Chaillot, etc.) and those that have not yet received the attention of Czech readers or theatre professionals (Judith, Apollo Bellacqua, The Paris Impromptu, etc.). A large part of the book is made up of new translations by Karel Kraus (who was the author of the original editorial proposal and whose last work was the translation of Júdit for this book), Michal Lázňovský and Michal Zahalka. The texts of the plays are accompanied by an original study introducing Giraudoux as a theatre artist, a list of performances of his plays on Czech stages and an extensive editorial note focusing on the genesis of the translations.
