Iva Němcová exhibition

  | ©

The exhibition presents works by the prematurely deceased extraordinary Czech scenographer Iva Němcová (1980–2015). It is a unique opportunity to have an insight in the creative process of her exquisite and inspiring, yet unfinished work.

The main components of the exhibition are models of her designs with video installations and audio material, which outlines circumstances and context of her works. The exhibition is also the occasion to publish a high-budget Czech-English book presenting Iva Němcová’s universal talent. It maps her work for theatre, but the book also contains shots from movies and music videos the designer participated in, documentation of a site-specific project or original designs of nontraditional jewelry and lighting fixtures. Although the book is intended to be a visual testimony, it features memories and texts written by experts, commentaries and observations made by the stage designer as well as the list of her works. The book was initiated and prepared by author’s friends and colleagues as they believe that Iva Němcová’s work is so exclusive it can become great inspiration and study material; it contains something essential from scenic arts from the beginning of the 21st century.

The authors of the book and the exhibition are Andrej Ďurík, Jan Frič, Lenka Jehlíková, Barbora Příhodová, Matěj Samec, Dragan Stojčevski, Lucia Škandíková, Daniel Špinar and Marie Zdeňková.

The exhibition and the book were produced in cooperation of the ATI and Zahrada o.p.s.
