Publication Department

The Publication Department is the centre of the ATI’s publishing work. It prepares and edits its regular publications series and it works on publishing projects with other departments of the ATI and outside publishers. In terms of the volume of publications it produces the ATI is one of the largest publishers of theatre literature in the Czech Republic, and a unique feature of its activity is the amount of expert and team-based work that it publishes. This kind of thorough editorial and expert preparation of individual publications is something that standard publishing houses are unable to pursue.

The Publication Department publishes original Czech and translated literature on the history and present of Czech and world theatre, books dealing with theatre arts theory and criticism, and plays. It prepares and edits the English periodical Czech Theatre and is responsible for the drama section of the periodical Bulletin.

It provides, in the series České divadlo (Czech Theatre) and Světové divadlo (World Theatre) original and translated work from the fields of theory, history, dramaturgy and so on. In co-operation with the theatre schools it publishes titles applicable to their syllabuses.

The series Současná hra (The Contemporary play - translations of foreign-language plays) is intended mainly for theatre professionals.

The new series Divadelní hry (Plays) presents selected plays by modern classics in translation.
