Czech Music Council award in 2012

The Czech Music Council awarded Collegium 1704 for exceptional art and dramaturgic quality of Collegium groups and representation of Czech culture abroad in the Břevnov monastery on 20th May 2012 during their concert (from 7:30 p.m.). Another award went to the Amos Editio publishing house for its contribution for the development of a relationship of young people with contemporary production and publishing high quality and pedagogically focused music scores by contemporary Czech authors.

The awards were given out by Lukáš Hurník, PhD, the president of the Czech Music Council and PhDr. Lenka Dohnalová, PhD, the secretary.

Prague Baroque orchestra Collegium 1704 and vocal company Collegium Vocale 1704 were founded by cembalist and conductor Václav Luks in 2005. Since 2007, Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704 have been residential groups of the Saint Wenceslas Music Festival in Ostrava. Companies quickly gained reputation especially in France where they contributed to promotion of Czech composer J. D. Zelenka. His Officium defunctorum & Requiem received the award of the GRAMOPHONE magazine in June 2011 as the best record of the month. More information:

Music publishing house Amos Editio Ltd was established in Prague in 2000 as a part of the AMOS group. It became one of the most important Czech publishing houses due to its quality and scope. 18th – 21st century Czech music prevails in its catalogue – especially chamber music and pieces with instructive focus. Czech Music Council is a Czech section of the UNESCO International Music Council. The awards have been given out for long-term significant activity in the field of music culture since 1994. Conductors Z. Košler, Sir Ch. Mackerras, J. Bělohlávek, J. Kout, opera directors D. Poutney, D. Radok, companies Collegium Marianum, Berch Orchestra and others rank among the award-winning ones. They are honourable awards; however, they are accompanied by a piece from Czech graphic artists.
